Mayo Clinic Delegation Visits Shanghai Yida Hospital

August 20 – A delegation from Mayo Clinic (US), led by Director Marlana Beck and Professor Philip R. Fischer, visited Shanghai Yida Hospital (affiliated to Shanghai University School of Medicine) for a professional exchange. The visit facilitated meaningful dialogue between the two institutions and reflected Yida’s ongoing commitment to international engagement in healthcare.

A Meeting of Excellence

At 9 a.m., accompanied by hospital representatives, the delegation toured several core areas starting from the North Outpatient Hall, through the central exhibition zone highlighting institutional milestones, to the strategic planning display for Yuanda Health City.  They spoke highly of Yida’s advanced facilities and development strategy. The tour also included the International Medical Center’s coronary bypass training base and the fifth-floor observation deck, offering insights into Yida’s specialty development and patient-friendly environment.

Building Bridges Through Shared Vision

During the symposium, Vice President Yu Zhiqing extended a warm welcome to the Mayo delegation and introduced Yida’s milestone, disciplinary strengths, technological innovations, and social responsibilities. Professor Wan Feng from the Yida Cardiac Center emphasized Yida’s patient-first approach and commitment to high-quality care, hope that the exchange would foster mutual growth with leading global institutions.

On behalf of the delegation, Ms. Marlana Beck, delivered a speech. Renowned as one of the world’s finest nonprofit integrated health systems, Mayo Clinic's century-long commitment to "The needs of the patient come first" has established global standards in clinical excellence, research, and education. Each year, over a million patients receive treatment at Mayo, and millions more benefit from its innovations and discoveries. Noting particularly strong synergy in multidisciplinary care and precision medicine approaches, both Director Beck and Professor Fischer envisioned substantial potential for future collaboration. In-depth discussions covered medical technology, talent development, and research.

In closing remarks, hospital leader representative Ms. Lin Lijun framed the visit as a foundation for future deeper cooperation in medical education, clinical services, and innovative research. She expressed Yida's commitment to expanding its global perspective while enhancing the quality and compassion of healthcare services for the community.
